Well done, Mr Daniel.

Motown ---> Elvis Costello (Get Happy!) ---> Spoon?

Yes, but Mr Daniel's not being 21st C Hipster Ironic, is he, Pablo?

I like the piano instead of guitar, like Ben Folds Five nudged him that way. Normally pianos are useless chaff in rock music.

I like the

a-OOOH-HOOO

bits he adds as vocal fills.

Well, the album is from the very start of the Century, Chet, and he's had plenty of time to soften his edges for wider acclaim. Already this album sounds nothing like Telefono, from the first cut it's obvious.

I'd take his case pro bono, at least up to and through Gimme Fiction. I'll defend him and his output happily.

I'd also admit Kill the Moonlight didn't hook me as strongly as Girls Can Tell or Gimme Fiction. But that's a matter of personal taste.

That one's got better dynamics, energy, clever musical ideas than anything on Telephono, Pablo.

He expanded on that song's ideas here:

again, the little vocal fill: Yes! at the start.

He's not afraid of spaces, quiet, etc. More interesting use of that "Pixies loud/soft dynamic" than the Pixies themselves, IMO.

You just keep talking to yourself there, Chet. I guess this is what you were "busy" with this morning. Listening to Spoon. Hope those aren't billable hours.

When it comes to making music, unfortunately I am always the flea and never the dog, Karl. I play recordings, not instruments.
